About Eco Pax Mundi
What is Eco Pax Mundi?
Eco Pax Mundi is a network of researchers and activists who share a critical approach to peace, ecology and equity. By critical, we mean an approach which aims at exploding the boundaries of the “given”, so that ideas and alternatives “out of the box” may be reached.
Members of Eco Pax Mundi Network have widely differing background, and live in different continents. We portray our life experiences, ideas and cultures as expressions of diversity and place. It is our conviction that peace and equity can be achieved only on the ground, in relational engagement with the local: people, traditions, places, ecologies.
Diversity is the root through which to contain, and hopefully reverse the ecological crises upon us: Eco Pax Mundi rejects the top-down, market-centric, one-size-fits-all approach of neo-liberal globalization, and instead promotes cultural, social and political diversity, traditionally and necessarily attuned to the particular ecological realities.
Yet, global problems (global perhaps more in their causes than in their effects, which vary locally) such as climate forcing require global coordination. This however does not mean finding ONE solution, and applying it across the board. Instead it means engaging in dialogues, cooperation, solidarity and sharing. It implies finding solutions which are appropriate to the specific place, culture and ecological realities. In some cases it in fact means to keeping existing solutions, negotiated over generations by people and places together, over replacing them with imported “technology transfer” which - too often- destroys local livelihoods and traditional ways of life. It means most of all accepting and appreciating the nexus between action, consequences and responsibilities, as well as between local places and cultures, in the “glocal” dimension of enriching interaction of complementary diversities.
The contributions that you can find in our website reflect this approach to the world today. Beyond the introductions of each member (Ambrose, Miriam, Ruth, Saikat, Vito), you may find comments and analyses, papers and newsletters. Besides currently Eco Pax Mundi runs four main strands. These are Climate Justice, Organic Farming as Embodied Politics, Land and Food Sovereignty, and Ecopraxis and the Earthing of Religion.
